AKTINO'S NEW AK5000 ASSURES CARRIERS THE LARGEST
SCALABLE ETHERNET-OVER-COPPER SERVICE FOOTPRINT

Chicago, June 5, 2006 - Aktino, the industry leader in delivery of business-class broadband over copper solutions, today significantly extended its existing product line with the introduction of its new highly scalable and reliable product platform, the AK5000. The new platform dramatically expands carriers' ability to scale Ethernet services ubiquitously and economically to their entire service area.

Aktino introduced the AK5000 at the Globalcomm trade show here, where the company is exhibiting in Booth #36067. Aktino is the first company to implement MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) techniques on DMT (Discrete Multi Tone)-based copper access platforms, to mitigate crosstalk among copper pairs and ensure robust high bandwidth and a reliable service footprint.

Based on the technology in Aktino's many successfully deployed MIMO on DMT systems, the new AK5000 is a compact shelf-based platform that provides redundant control cards for bandwidth aggregation, multi-protocol uplinks, and centralized management all designed for large scale deployment. Providing carrier grade reliability superior to currently deployed copper based HDSL DS1 products, the AK5000 provides service to each customer individually with field replaceable line cards. Each 5RU line card slot allows the carrier to provide Ethernet services at symmetrical bandwidths from 5 to 50 Mbps over the industry's largest service area footprint. The cumulative throughput capacity of the shelf is 1 Gigabit per second of symmetric bandwidth.

"The current generation of Ethernet over copper systems provide very limited scalability and in some cases use ad hoc schemes that don't really meet carrier's needs for the long term," said Bruce Kimble, president and CEO of Aktino. "The AK5000 is a true carrier class platform with the scalability, field replaceability and reliability carriers expect from their mission critical systems. And of course it uses Aktino's MIMO over DMT technology because for economical and scalable Ethernet services delivery, it's really all about the footprint."

"There are two things that are most important to our carrier customers," Kimble added. "They want to be able to consistently deliver dependable bandwidth across their service area, or in other words to provide the largest consistent service footprint, and they want to do that with a system that scales and is easy to manage. The AK5000 addresses both of those needs."

Because Aktino dedicates a single AK5000 line card to each customer, in the event a line card should fail only one customer's service is affected, and the impact of an outage is minimized. As with all other Aktino products, the AK5000 is T1.417 compliant, so its MIMO on DMT technology does not affect ADSL services in the same binder. Also, like the AK3000 and AK4000, this platform has line powering capability for the remote units on the same copper pairs that carry the traffic, still a major differentiator for the Aktino solutions.

The AK5000 joins the existing members of the Aktino product family, the AK3000 and AK4000, both also based on MIMO over DMT, to mitigate both self and alien crosstalk in copper pair binders. Both are essential to Aktino's "footprint" strategy, emphasizing the importance of broad, reliable service coverage over the entire carrier serving area.

About Aktino
Aktino designs and delivers innovative carrier-class long reach broadband over copper solutions that enable service providers to offer revenue generating business-class broadband services over existing copper loops. Aktino is a pioneer in the use of industry standard DMT (Discrete multi Tone) with MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) in the wireline domain. Aktino's products enable service providers to deliver more services to a larger footprint than any other copper-based broadband solution. Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Irvine, California, Aktino is shipping products to service providers throughout the world. For more information, please visit www.aktino.com
