AKTINO, EMBARQ LOGISTICS SIGN MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT FOR AKTINO'S AK3000, AK4000 PLATFORMS
IRVINE, California, June 13, 2006 - Aktino, the technology leader in delivery of business-class broadband services throughout the carrier serving area (CSA) over embedded copper loops, has signed a multi-year agreement with EMBARQ Logistics, a division of Embarq (NYSE: EQ), the company announced today.
The agreement covers Aktino's AK3000 and AK4000 platforms. The AK3000 provides long-reach DS3 (45 Mbps) bandwidth, while the AK4000 enables true 5 to 50 Mbps business-class Ethernet services over copper. Both platforms enable this capacity across the entire CSA.
EMBARQ Logistics is the deployment, distribution, and logistics division of Embarq, and serves a vast customer base of telecommunications service providers in addition to its parent company. With this agreement, EMBARQ Logistics and Aktino will work together to reach a far broader market for the Aktino platforms.
"Aktino's Broadband over Copper solutions allow us to continue our commitment to providing innovative solutions with compelling value propositions to our 1,400 telco customers nationwide," said Brad Clark, vice president of Marketing and Sales for EMBARQ Logistics. "We selected Aktino because its solution will allow business customers to be able to take advantage of broadband services over their existing copper wires. Plus the product has the ability to reach customers who might not be able to be served with similar legacy offerings."
As Clark said in Embarq's own news announcement last week, "We will focus on those customers -- other carriers and RBOCs -- that have similar needs as Embarq Corporation. Thus, we will be supplying to our customers many of the same types of network equipment that EMBARQ will use to deliver broadband services to its customers. It's practical ingenuity and it just makes sense. With the broad purchasing power of both EMBARQ and EMBARQ Logistics' customers, we offer a product and service portfolio that others simply cannot match."
"With a national telecommunications leader like EMBARQ Logistics carrying our product line for its blue chip list of telco customers, it really broadens our reach," said Hamid Lalani, senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Aktino. "We will work enthusiastically with our partner to bring these products to EMBARQ Logistics customers, with robust support."
Both the AK3000 and AK4000 are based on Aktino's groundbreaking MIMO over DMT (Multiple Input, Multiple Output over Discrete Multi-Tone) technology, which reduces crosstalk among copper pairs. This technology also delivers the kind of reliable high bandwidth that enables providers to establish a broad service footprint, one that covers essentially the entire CSA, or 12,000 feet using 24-gauge wire. Both platforms are environmentally hardened and can be line powered.
The Aktino AK3000 platform transports business-class services up to DS3 using only one-third to one-half as many copper loops as other bonded solutions, such as G.SHDSL and HDSLx. It dynamically load balances traffic across all the loops being used. Because it is T1.417 compliant, it does not interfere with existing services such as ADSL and HDSL in the same binder group, even at long distances and high bandwidth levels.
The Aktino AK4000 platform, an Ethernet in the First Mile solution, enables true 5 to 50 Mbps business-class Ethernet services and guarantees ubiquity of those services across the CSA. It bridges the service gap between high-bandwidth, high-margin Ethernet over fiber and low-bandwidth DS1 or Ethernet over DS1 HDSL-based solutions. The AK4000 extends Ethernet services to the underserved small and medium-sized enterprise market, transporting a symmetrical 10 Mbps Ethernet service on four copper pairs or a symmetrical 25 Mbps Ethernet service on eight pairs.
