AKTINO'S PHYSICAL LAYER BROADBAND OVER COPPER
BREAKTHROUGHS EARN IT A SPOT AS AWARDS FINALIST

IRVINE, California, April 12, 2007 - The technology innovations of Aktino, the industry leader in delivery of business-class broadband over existing copper wiring infrastructure, have earned the company a finalist position for an award from AeA, the nation's largest high-tech trade association.

Aktino is a finalist in the semiconductor category, which recognizes the company's physical layer innovations inherent in its VDSL2-based, MIMO on DMT™ (multiple input, multiple output on discrete multi-tone) technology.

The first company to deliver products for the business broadband services market based on DMT, Aktino was also first to enhance performance with a MIMO architecture. This enables Aktino's products to minimize crosstalk among copper pairs, delivering longer reach and greater bandwidth.

"Aktino has always believed that the real technology breakthroughs in multi-pair bonding for broadband over copper systems are in the area of crosstalk and hence the innovation will have to be at the physical layer," said Michail Tsatsanis, chief scientist at Aktino. "In commercial deployments and in tests with the largest global carriers, we have shown that our Layer 1 technology continues to set the performance and reliability standards for broadband over copper."

Ron Westfall, Broadband Infrastructure Principal Analyst for Current Analysis, observes: "Aktino's use of the world's most widely deployed encoding scheme, DMT, combined with the company's innovative application of standard MIMO technology to solve the crosstalk problem in copper binders, has certainly made the overall business case for broadband over copper even more compelling. This includes taking advantage of burgeoning standardized business access technologies, such as symmetrical VDSL2, and advancing Ethernet over copper services as a mainstream option for carriers to attract more business service customers."

Because Aktino's technology enables higher capacity, greater reach and exceptional reliability, it offers service providers a much larger service footprint, throughout the entire Carrier Serving Area. In even the most challenging tests, Aktino's FiberSLA™ equipment has proven its reliability, performing to meet and exceed Fiber Service Level Agreements. Aktino's product family is one of the most versatile on the market and consists of the AK3000 for long-reach DS3 (45 Mbps) services, the AK4000 for delivering 10 to 50 Mbps business-class Ethernet services, and the AK5000, a scalable, shelf-based platform for larger installations.

Winners in the 14th annual High-Tech Innovation Awards, sponsored by AeA's Orange County & Inland Empire Council, in California, will be announced May 10. Aktino, Tsatsanis said, "is proud that we have been named a finalist, and that our technology has been recognized by the prestigious AeA."
