As the thirst for bandwidth continues to grow from businesses, service providers need to be able to meet bandwidth demands, while keeping their CAPEX and OPEX to a minimum. Traditionally, service providers have met customer requirements by offering multiple copper-based services such as T1's or by trenching fiber. However, bandwidth demands are continuing to increase so multiple T1 services are not the answer, and trenching fiber in many cases is just not economical.
